Vintage Linens

There is definitely an audience for vintage linens, bowls and dishware. If you look on ebay, vintage napkins and tablecloths are in some demand. Of course, finding those that grandma used in the '40s, '50s and '60s are hard to find in perfect condition. They usually have spots or very faint stains on them. Who would have ever thought that Pyrex bowls, some of the most widely used, unimaginative, sensible kitchen staples, would be popular again. But they are! If you have full nesting sets they sell for quite a bit more than random pieces. Certain colors, like pink, sell the best. It appears that young women just setting up house are leaning toward the '50s colors of pink, aqua and yellow these days. The '80s version of those colors (when some of the rest of us were setting up our first houses) came from the Southwest craze of the time. Those tended toward more blue-greens, browns and peach tones. Obviously, with the resurgence of a vintage style comes the resurgence of its signature colors. And patterns. Polka dots are popular again, and plaids and cabbage roses, at least the kind on vintage linens. The Victorian use of roses, however, are not really selling. Very few chintz plates and turn-of-the-century style (the 20th century) paintings are in demand. But the simpler, less busy, less ornate styles of artwork and patterns are embraced by young shoppers. Take note of these young shoppers...they are the ones who aren't on fixed incomes...and aren't downsizing!
