The Hobby that CAN be Named

It's becoming increasingly clear that the re-sale routine is in high gear. Like a snowball growing more and more sizable, a larger number of residents are shopping the re-sale market.

First of all, instead of one or two weekends in a year when you see signs on every corner for an annual garage/yard/estate sale, now it's one or two times a month. There is scarcely a neighbor who can't regale you with stories about the "garage sale from hell" or when an adult daughter made them have a "downsizing sale."

Even the City of Santa Clarita weighed in recently, when residents were reminded to remove yard sale signs promptly after the event. Amused, I thought to myself how much more legitimate the practice of "garage saling" has become. There was a time when hawking your stuff on your driveway would amaze your neighbors...or send you to social Siberia, in some cases. Now you are considered clever for finding someone who can give a home to your "previously loved" goodies...and make some pocket money at the same time.

As a seasoned garage saler, I am (of course) pleased at the changes. It no longer has to be the "hobby that shall remain nameless." Indeed, this swath of the population comes in all shapes, sizes and economic situations.

Some of the very individuals whose treasures we carry in our shop, The Living Room Emporium, are very affluent. Many of our customers could buy and sell us twice over. They just enjoy "the hobby."

This month's re-sale therapy tip is benefitting Single Mothers Outreach. The Living Room Emporium is holding the annual "Mother of All Estate Sales" in the parking lot, here next to Don Cuco's in Canyon Country this SATURDAY, MAY 19th.
